MS Outlook is still a very popular e-mail client application. Users who have continued to utilize the Window XP operating system are unable to use the advanced versions like MS Outlook 2010 because of compatibility issues. All of the user’s data like e-mails, notes and calendar appointments are stored in the Outlook PST file. If this file becomes damaged or corrupt, the user will be unable to open Outlook 2003.
Repairing the damaged PST file can be accomplished with the Scanpst.exe tool. This is a utility that checks the PST for damage and performs repairs to restore the files integrity. In most cases, the Scanpst.exe tool will restore access to MS Outlook. The free built-in tool can be found in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
Simply run the Scanpst.exe program and browse to the PST file. Then click the Scan button and the utility will automatically repair any damage it finds. If the Scanpst.exe tool is unable to completely repair the file, a third party application designed for Outlook PST Repair task will be required. These tools are able perform advanced recovery and rebuilding processes to restore the PST file to full integrity.
