Recovering Lost or Damaged Outlook PST File
Most people who rely on MS Outlook for managing their e-mails have encountered issues where they are unable to complete their task. Sometimes they are unable to send or receive e-mails through Outlook. At other times, they find themselves unable to open the MS Outlook applications. Whenever a user encounters one of these situations, they should be shown one of the following error messages:
MS Outlook error – unable to connect to outgoing mail server.
Outlook Express: General Authentication Failed.
Outlook report error – Sending and receiving report error.
Cannot Start Outlook. Unable to open Outlook Window.
All of these error messages are caused by a missing or damaged Outlook PST file. The most common way to fix this problem is by running the Scanpst.exe tool. This tool is in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
Running the Scanpst.exe tool will allow the user to browse to the damaged PST file and initiate a scan. When the tool finds damage, it will automatically repair it. Most of the time, this will restore Outlook to full functionality. When Scanpst.exe is unable to complete the repairs, an Outlook PST Repair application from a third party provider will be needed.
